EVEN IN HIS LAST BREATH – HOPE REUNITES

"Woman, behold your son! Behold, your mother!" (John 19:26-27)

John 19:26-27 NIV
[26] When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,”
[27] and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

There is something Jesus wants to talk to each one of us through this Word "Woman, behold your son! Behold, your mother!". It may not be theological but something practical. Something to carry it every day and live on it. This journey of ours is not a simple road, rather it is rugged. The way from Gethsemane to Golgotha was the toughest path, Jesus ever has crossed for each one of us.

Jesus prayed in anguish, sweating drops of blood, He was seized, bound by the temple guards, mocked, slapped and spat upon. He faced false accusations and condemnation. Jesus was whipped 39 times with the lashes, beaten up by the Roman soldiers. He was crowned with thorns, which pierced His scalp. The hands and feet of Jesus was nailed to the woods. He hung on the cross for 6 hours, He was embarrassed and left to shame before the people who loved Him dearly. Jesus was even forsaken by His Father, God Almighty, Just for You and Me.

STILL, HE LOOKS AT HIS MOTHER AND SAYS, "WOMAN, BEHOLD YOUR SON!” HE LOOKS AT JOHN, HIS FAVORITE DISCIPLE AND SAYS, “BEHOLD, YOUR MOTHER!"

Why did Jesus take such an effort to make a Family Bond between Mary and John as Mother and a Son, while hanging on the cross? Jesus had an unimaginable pain at that time, which cannot be expressed through my words. Yet He did a ministry on the cross.

My Dear Family in Christ, as Matthew 16:24 says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” We are the DISCIPLES OF CHRIST and we are designated to FOLLOW AND OBEY the Words of Jesus Christ. Jesus wants us to be reunited again as a Family. It’s not a formality to be fulfilled, it’s not an assignment to be submitted, but “IT IS THE WORD OF JESUS CHRIST” to be OBEYED AND SHOWED ACTIONS.

If Jesus wanted to teach us that every Christian brother and sister is a family, he could have showed us before he died on the cross. But Jesus dared to show us on the Cross, that each one of us, whoever believes that JESUS IS THE CHRIST, are UNITED IN HIS FAMILY. Just as 1 Corinthians 12:12 depicts, "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”

I know it’s very difficult to accept others as our family, but as John 14:23 writes, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
