The First Step for a Disciple: Taking Up The Cross

TODAY'S DEVOTION

Luke 14:27 - And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

GREEK TERMS:

βαστάζει (bastazei) - Does Not Carry
To take up, bear, or willingly carry a burden. It speaks of accepting the life, responsibility, and calling God has given, without complaining.

ἑαυτοῦ (eautou) - His Own
The one must be responsible for himself or herself, it cannot be carried out by others or you cannot do for others.

σταυρὸν (stauron) - Cross
The Cross is a Must for every Christian believer. The Cross represents sacrifice, surrender, and obedience. It is not just suffering, but a life laid down daily for Christ.

ἔρχεται (erchetai) - Come After Or Follow
Following Christ even when things go wrong. Walking with the Lord as Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Issac walked with the Lord.

μαθητής (mathētēs) - Be My Disciple
Being the disciple means, getting into the character of Christ.

WORD OF THE DAY:

Jesus does not call us to comfort, He calls us to commitment. Carrying our cross means choosing Him daily, even when it costs us something. It must be from our own Willingness to follow Christ. Not forced by anyone. When we were children, our parents might have asked us to read the Bible everyday and memorize it and pray for the things we wanted. That was something we were asked to practice so that our faith in God may become strong and our relationship with Him grown deeper. But when we become adults it's our responsibility to keep our faith in track, get set our relationship with Christ and live a life pleasing God and not becoming an hindrance to people.

Therefore, Christian Life is not a name sake life, it's an everyday submission, everyday surrendering our desires and passions, everything listening to God's voice and doing as He pleases. The Cross we carry invisibily shows our faith and anointing in Christ.

WORD OF PRAYER

Dear Lord, we bring ourselves everyday into your presence, we submit and surrender our lives before you. May we not become a hindrance to anybody rather may we live an examplary life. Give us your strength to carry our cross everyday. In Jesus name we ask in Faith.

Amen
