In the Last Days
Luke 21:34–36 - “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Jesus warned His disciples about the condition of the last days thousands of years ago, and today we are seeing those very things happening before our eyes. The world is full of entertainment, social media influence, amusement, pleasure, vacations, business, noise, distractions, and endless anxieties. Yet people are still empty, restless, depressed, broken, and spiritually tired.
Today even children cannot stay without phones. Youth are dragged by worldly influences. Families have money but no peace. People travel everywhere searching for happiness, but their hearts are still burdened. There is amusement outside, but anxiety inside.
Jesus said our hearts could become “weighed down.” This heaviness is not only physical but it is spiritual. Drunkenness is not only drinking wine; it is also spiritual unconsciousness, when people lose sensitivity, wisdom, discernment, and the fear of God. Many speak without thinking, act without understanding, and live without spiritual awareness.
Another dangerous thing about worldliness, anxiety, depression, spiritual carelessness, and the pressures of life is that they slowly distort the image and likeness of God within us. In the book of Genesis, God created mankind in His own image and likeness. But when a person becomes completely consumed by the world, spiritual sensitivity begins to die. Faith becomes disoriented, the heart becomes spiritually unconscious, and the reflection of God inside that person slowly fades away.
That is why in the Gospel of Matthew, many people stand before God saying, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, cast out demons, and perform many miracles?” Yet the Lord replies, “I never knew you.” The reason is not that God lacks knowledge, but that the image and likeness of God within them had been distorted by worldliness, pride, anxiety, sin, spiritual emptiness, and distance from His presence.
God recognizes His own nature reflected in us. When prayer disappears, when holiness disappears, when spiritual watchfulness disappears, the divine likeness within us becomes damaged. That is why Jesus warned us to remain watchful and prayerful in the last days. Only through prayer, the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and a life rooted in Christ can the image and likeness of God be preserved within us.
We must not allow the pressures, entertainments, distractions, depression, anxieties, and darkness of this world to erase the identity God placed inside us. We are called to remain spiritually awake so that when we stand before the Son of Man, He will recognize His image within us.
That is why Jesus gave us two important commands:
1. Be Watchful - Be careful in thoughts, words, actions, behavior, relationships, and media consumption.
2. Pray Continually - Only through prayer, the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and the blood of Jesus can we escape the traps of this world.
Jesus Christ is coming soon in His Second Coming - His Parousia. We must remain spiritually awake so that we may stand before the Son of Man without shame.
MY TESTIMONY:
Recently, while visiting my grandmother’s place in Munnar, I saw beautiful climates, tourist places, gardens, amusement spots, and people coming from all over the world to enjoy themselves. People even created businesses from simple things like salt, rocks, mud, and souvenirs just for entertainment and pleasure.
But while observing the people there, I noticed something painful. Even while taking pictures, traveling, and trying to enjoy life, many still looked burdened and unhappy. I saw couples arguing about their future, finances, and family matters. Though surrounded by beauty, peace was absent from their hearts.
The Holy Spirit reminded me of Luke 21:34–36. The world offers pleasure, but cannot heal the heaviness of the soul. Many hearts today are drowned in anxiety, depression, confusion, and spiritual emptiness. Jesus already warned us about this condition long ago.
This experience taught me that true peace does not come from entertainment, money, vacations, or worldly pleasures. True peace comes only through watchfulness, prayer, the presence of God, and a life rooted in Christ.
